Book review by Rev’d Dr Hugh Begbie
At the time of writing this book review I am at Biggenden, early on in a 5 month wander of the Eastern half of Australia looking for things to photograph. In between driving, walking and climbing I have been reading ‘The Problem of Jesus’, written by Mark Clark and published by Zondervan.
This is a must read book. It is brilliant, it is moving and it is challenging. It can also reach a wide audience. ‘The Problem of Jesus’ has an apologetic edge to it which makes it very suitable for open skeptics, those unclear but searching. The author has also had some remarkable spiritual experiences which would gladden those of more Pentecostal leaning, and his writing is deeply anchored in the Bible with an understanding, interpretation and application that area clearly theological and profound.
Clark unpacks the story of Jesus in a way that has bought me to tears. His insights are wonderful and will become part of my understanding of Scripture. Nothing I can say in a short review can do this book justice. Suffice it to say I intend to re-read it, this time with a pen at my disposal, taking notes and recording quotes for future occasions. However, this is a book which feeds the spirit as well as the mind and I have grown through reading it.
Buy it, read it, share it.
